The publication of this book has come at a very timely moment in the strategic evolution of the
World Tourism Organization (WTO). An understanding of the determinants of the success of a
tourism destination has always been of great interest to the traditional country membership of the
WTO. However, the recent establishment of a special Task Force on Destination Management
within our organization is a direct reflection of the growing importance of this critical theoretical
paradigm in the improvement of management performance for our broader membership
worldwide.
